Nancy's Pond Tips

Due to the extreme heat , most ponds have suffer more , green and string algae , add another filter
system at a min. Cost by designing your own or an easy fix is to take a 2 liter bottle and punch holes
in it and fit it over the intake of your pump . All water going in will  have the algae in it cling to the bottle
, clean it every other day depending on the your ponds condition, this is actually is good throughout
the summer but since underwater a mess to deal with , this is why you add a special designed filter.

String Algae , remove it as if cotton candy , get a stick and swirl it on the stick , must move in a circle
motion and at a smooth speed of the wrist. If this not work for you then use a salt treatment , call and
ask Nancy how to do this as water vol. matters here.

The fish love to have water sprayed at night , they surface to enjoy the oxygen created.

In the heat I would back off feeding just as if we were getting colder.

When the weather drops and holds an low 80 high 70 I would recommend cleaning for the winter as
there is still time for light algae to grow for the winter.

Good time to maybe lower plants and get ready for the winter .

Placing a piece of driftwood in the pond will help during Ice and allow escape for carbon monoxide and
oxygen in.  If you have reeds, cat tails and few other plants allow for this too.

In light winters you can keep your pump running or go to a indoor pump with a hose leading to the
pond and supplying air.

Keep checking back Tips will be added to tell you how to design a pond , dig ,
and install for next spring.

Enjoy !
